Import Historical Sales and Entrees for Use in Forecasting

Prev Next

To create forecasting projection dates for periods before POS polling was enabled for a location, import historical sales and entree data on the Forecasting page.

Data is imported using a standardized template, with each row covering a 15-minute interval for a specified date.

Polled data is not affected by historical forecasting imports, and imported historical sales used in forecasting will not appear in the DSS.

For forecasting projection dates, imported sales and entree data replaces existing data for the same interval.

Repolling POS data does not change projection dates with imported data.

Security

Users with the following permission can import historical sales and entree data:

  • Sales & Cash → Forecasts → Weekly Forecasting → Import Forecasts

These permissions can be added to custom user roles or individual users. The Permission Access report can be used to determine which user roles or users already have these permissions assigned. For more information, see User Setup and Security.

Import Historical Sales and Entree Data

Follow these steps to import historical sales and entree data for use in forecasting:

Click steps to expand for additional information and images.

1) Navigate to the Forecasting page.

  1. Select Sales & forecasting from the left navigation rail.

  2. Select Forecasting.

2) Open the three dot menu at the top of the page, then select Import historical sales & entrees.

3) On the Import Sales & Entrees Template screen, click Download Template.

This will download the template file as a .csv.

4) Enter historical sales and entree data for each 15-minute interval in the downloaded template.

Template Columns

  • Location ID - Location name or number, as it appears on the location record. (Required)

  • Datetime - Date and start time of each 15-minute period (00, 15, 30, or 45). (Required)

  • Gross Sales - Gross sales for the 15-minute period.

  • Net Sales - Net sales for the 15-minute period.

  • Entree  - Entree count for the 15-minute period.

At least one sales total (either gross or net) is required for each interval.

Missing intervals will have their gross, net, and entree values imported as 0.

5) Return to the importer, then click Browse to select a file or drag and drop the file onto the importer.

6) Click Import.

7) If the import is successful, the number of rows successfully imported is displayed.

Import Errors

When an import includes rows with errors, those rows are skipped and a correction file is generated. The correction file lists each failed row and the reason it failed.

Enter corrections directly in the downloaded correction file and upload it again. There is no need to move failed rows into a new import template or remove the ‘Problem’ column.

8) Click Download Correction List.

9) Review the ‘Problem’ column for error reasons, then correct any issues.

10) Re-import the corrections file. (Repeat steps 5 - 10).

If there are any additional unsuccessful imports, continue repeating the steps until all rows have been corrected and imported.
