Labor calculation is a separate process from POS data import — when it fails, R365 provides a way to rerun it without re-importing data from the point of sale.
When the Daily Sales Summary (DSS) is created, R365 runs a labor calculation to compute totals, overtime, and other labor costs against the imported punch data. This calculation can fail independently of the POS data import. When a failure occurs, the DSS displays the current status and shows the Retry Calculations button so the calculation can be rerun without affecting the punch data in R365. Understanding the labor calculation status and when to use Retry Calculations helps prevent unnecessary repolls, which delete the DSS and remove all manually entered data.
Labor Calculation Status
R365 tracks the state of the labor calculation for each DSS record and displays it in the DSS Labor Review section. The following status values reflect the current state of the calculation:
Status | Description |
|---|---|
In Progress | The labor calculation is running. Labor totals are not final and will update when the calculation completes. |
Failed | The calculation did not complete. An error message appears in the Labor section header, and the Retry Calculations button is available to rerun the calculation. Any labor data present before the failure remains visible on the DSS. |
Empty | No labor data was imported from the POS for this day. This can also occur when the location was closed. |
Completed | The labor calculation completed successfully. Labor totals reflect the current punch data in R365. |
A Failed status does not prevent DSS approval. A warning message appears, but the DSS can still be approved.
Retry Calculations
When the labor calculation status is Failed, the Retry Calculations button appears in the Labor section header of the DSS. Clicking it reruns the labor calculation against the punch data already in R365 — it does not initiate a new poll from the POS. For a full description of the Labor section, see DSS Labor Review.
Retry Calculations recomputes labor totals and overtime using the punch data already in R365. If the POS data itself needs to be corrected or updated, deleting and repolling the DSS is required instead. See When to Use Retry Calculations vs. Repoll below.
Important Note About Button Availability
In some cases, the Retry Calculations button may not appear in the Labor section header even when the error message is visible. If the button is not available, contact R365 Support for assistance.
Follow these steps to retry labor calculations on a DSS:
Click steps to expand for additional information and images.
1) Navigate to the Daily Sales Summary record that has a labor calculation failure.
Open the Sales and Forecasting app.
Expand Daily sales summary.
Click Daily sales summary.
Select the record that has a labor calculation failure.

2) In the Review Summary section, click Labor to open the Labor section.

3) In the Labor section header, click Retry Calculations.

4) Wait for the labor totals to update.
When the calculation completes, the Total Labor value reflects the current punch data and the error message no longer appears.

When to Use Retry Calculations vs. Repoll
The appropriate recovery path depends on where the failure occurred — in the labor calculation, or in the data imported from the POS.
Retry Calculations | Repoll (Delete DSS via the Classic DSS page) | |
|---|---|---|
What it does | Reruns the labor calculation against punch data already in R365 | Deletes the DSS record and re-imports all data from the POS. |
Use when | The DSS shows a labor calculation error but employee punches appear correct in the Labor section | The POS data is missing or incorrect and has been updated in the POS since the last import. |
Effect on manually entered data | Manually entered punch edits, added earnings, and imported tips in R365 are not affected. Retry Calculations reprocesses existing R365 data only. | All manually entered data is removed. Punch edits, added earnings, and imported tips are not retained. |
Can it be undone? | Retry Calculations can be run again at any time. No punch data is modified or removed.i\ | No. Deleting a DSS cannot be undone. |
R365 recommends using Retry Calculations as the first recovery step when a labor calculation failure occurs. A repoll deletes the DSS record and removes all manually entered data. If Retry Calculations resolves the issue, a repoll is not necessary. See Manually Delete a DSS for repoll steps when a repoll is required.
If the Issue Persists
If labor totals do not update after clicking Retry Calculations, or if the Retry Calculations button does not appear in the Labor section header, contact R365 Support for further assistance.
