Rename a Parent Job

Prev Next

A parent job name can be changed directly from its name field in the Parent Jobs section of the Job Settings page.

In Beta

This feature is in beta for select customers. Contact your CSM for more information.

Security

Renaming a parent job requires the following permission:

  • Labor → Jobs → Edit Jobs

These permissions can be added to custom user roles or individual users. The Permission Access report can be used to determine which user roles or users already have these permissions assigned. For more information, see User Setup and Security.

Rename a Parent Job

  1. Navigate to the Job Settings page.

    • Admin → Workforce → Job Settings

  2. In the Parent Jobs section, locate the desired parent job.

  3. Click into the Parent Jobs field
    The field becomes editable.

  4. Clear the existing name and enter the new name.

The change saves automatically. The renamed parent job retains all of its assigned location jobs.

FAQ

What happens if I don't have the required permission to rename a parent job?

Without the Labor → Jobs → Edit Jobs permission, the Parent Jobs field on the Job Settings page does not allow entry, so the name cannot be changed. permissions can be added to a custom user role or an individual user, and the Permission Access report identifies which roles or users already have them. See User Setup, Security, and Location Access for how to grant this access.

Does renaming a parent job affect Labor Matrix settings or historical reports?

Renaming a parent job only changes its display name; it retains all of its assigned location jobs and does not remove or reconfigure any Labor Matrix groupings built around it. Labor Matrix settings applied to a parent job carry over automatically because they reference the parent job record, not its name. See Labor Matrix Overview for how parent jobs function within labor matrix groups.

Can two parent jobs have the same name?

The article does not state whether R365 enforces unique parent job names, so behavior when entering a name that matches an existing parent job is unconfirmed. Users who need to distinguish similarly named parent jobs should verify assigned location jobs before relying on the name alone. [LINK NEEDED: parent job duplicate name validation]

Why don't I see the option to rename a parent job on the Job Settings page?

Parent job management on the Job Settings page is currently in beta for select customers, so the rename capability may not appear for every account even when the correct permission is assigned. Contact a Customer Success Manager to confirm beta access. See Job Settings Page for the full set of actions available once enabled.
