Punch Action Log Overview

Prev Next

The Punch Action Log is a manager-facing screen in the Time Clock app. It records every punch attempt made on the current device and shows whether each punch was delivered to the Time Clock service.

The log works like a delivery receipt. It tracks whether the device sent the punch to the Time Clock service — not whether the punch appeared on the timecard. A punch that shows Sent has been delivered to the Time Clock service. It may not yet be visible on the Timecard if something fails in the downstream labor pipeline.

The Punch Action Log only shows punches made on the current device. Each Time Clock tablet has its own separate log. Punches made on other devices at the same location are not visible here.

Punch Action Log overview

Key concepts

Delivery status, not Timecard status

The Punch Action Log tracks punch delivery from the Time Clock device to the Time Clock service. A Sent status means the device delivered the punch to the service — not that it reached the Timecard.

If a punch shows Sent but does not appear on the Timecard, check the Timecards page for any flagged issues first, and contact R365 support if the problem persists.

Three punch statuses

Status

Meaning

Sent

The device delivered the punch to the Time Clock service

Failed

The device could not deliver the punch due to a network or server error — resyncable

Blocked

The Time Clock service rejected the punch because a Time Clock rule was violated (for example, an unscheduled employee trying to clock in) — resyncable as a manager override. Hover over the status chip to see the rule reason.

Device log

Punch records are stored on the device. The log only includes punches made on this device for the last 30 days. The system removes records older than 30 days automatically.

Key actions

1

View punch records

Open the Punch Action Log from the sidebar to see a table of all punch attempts on this device for the last 30 days.

2

Search punch records

Filter the table by employee name or job name using the search field. The filter applies immediately and resets the page.

3

Resync multiple punches

Syncs multiple rows of selected punches at once.

5

Resync

Tap the sync icon on a row to resubmit an individual punch. Resyncing bypasses Time Clock rules for both Failed and Blocked punches.

Setup and maintenance

The Punch Action Log is available once the feature is enabled and the required user permission is in place.

Punch log not appearing?

Check these in order:

  1. Confirm your account has the Edit Timeclock Users permission.

  2. Confirm the device is online.

When the feature disabled, the Punch Log sidebar menu item is hidden. If a user goes directly to the screen, the app redirects them to the Time Clock homescreen.

Online requirement

The Punch Action Log is only available when the device is online. When offline, the Time Clock app does not identify manager roles, so all manager-level UI — including the Punch Log — is hidden. This behavior applies across the Time Clock app.

Permissions

Access to the Punch Action Log requires the Edit Timeclock Users permission.

The permission is found in Labor → Time Clock → Timeclock Users in the permissions tree.

Users without this permission do not see the Punch Action Log button and cannot access the screen.
