Payroll hub checks a pay run for outstanding issues before it can be submitted, and surfaces each one as a card that can be acted on directly from the hub.
Before Payroll hub, these conditions were scattered across separate screens with no single view of what was blocking submission. Payroll hub solves this by surfacing each blocking condition as a card with a live count, so a processor can see everything standing between the current pay run and ready-to-submit in one place.
What a Readiness Validation Is
A readiness validation is a check performed before a pay run can be considered ready to submit. Each validation appears as a card showing an affected-record count. Clicking a card opens a side panel listing the affected records, with a route into the existing approval workflow for that record type.

Two Conditions Determine Which Cards Appear
Every readiness card beyond Unpayable Employees depends on two conditions being true at once: Payroll hub itself being on the required rollout tier, and the company already having the related feature enabled — Accruals for the Time Off Requests card, Timecards for the Timecards card, and Tip Automation for the Tip Distributions card.
Raising the rollout tier never turns on an underlying feature by itself — it only reveals cards for features the company already has. This is why two companies on the same rollout tier can see different sets of cards, and why confirming both conditions is the fastest way to answer a "why don't I see this card" question.
Timecards and Daily Sales Summaries Are Mutually Exclusive
A company will never see both the Timecards card and the Daily Sales Summaries card at once. When Timecards is enabled, it takes over and the Daily Sales Summaries card is always hidden; the reverse is true when Timecards is off.
Resolving an Issue Inline vs. Through the Review Form
Every validation panel offers two ways to resolve a pending item: an inline approve or deny action directly in the panel, or a review form that opens the full record first. Both paths carry the same permission checks, audit behavior, and business logic — the review form is for when more context is needed, and inline is a shortcut when it is not.
Important Note About Inline Actions
There is no confirmation dialog on inline approve or deny actions. The action executes immediately and cannot be undone.
Denying a time off request inline submits without a manager comment. A comment can only be added through the review form.
Reviewing Unpayable Employees from Payroll Hub
The Payroll Readiness section on Payroll Hub includes an inline Unpayable Employees panel. When you open the panel and edit an employee profile, payment recalculation starts automatically.

Resolving Unpayable Employees From Payroll Hub
Payroll hub surfaces the same unpayable employees on an Unpayable Employees readiness card, showing a count of employees who currently cannot be paid in the active pay run. Clicking the card opens a side panel listing the affected employees; selecting an employee opens the employee record to review and correct the issue.
Important Note About Resolving From the Hub
Resolving an item from Payroll hub takes effect immediately.
Approve, Deny, or Review Time Off Requests From the Payroll Hub
Payroll Hub provides a second path for reviewing time off requests, separate from the Time Off tab on the Manager Tools page described above. This check appears in the Payroll Readiness section of Payroll Hub as a Time Off Requests card showing a count of pending requests.
This Payroll Hub path is an additional entry point for reviewing time off requests before a pay run is submitted. It works alongside the Time Off tab on the Manager Tools page — both paths lead to the same approval outcome.
Review Pending Time Off Requests
Click the Time off requests readiness card.
Click Approve or Deny on a request.
This action is immediate and irreversible.

Review Timecards From Payroll Hub
Payroll Hub surfaces any unapproved timecards as a readiness item, so timecards can be reviewed and approved without leaving the Hub. This is a different review path than the Timecards page described above.
The Timecards readiness card appears only when Payroll Hub and the Timecards feature are both enabled. When Timecards is enabled, the Daily Sales Summaries readiness card does not appear, and the reverse is also true.
Security
Approving from the panel, or Save + Approve in the dialog, requires the Labor → Time & Attendance → Timecards → Edit Timecards permission.
Viewing a timecard in the dialog requires the Labor → Time & Attendance → Timecards → View Timecards permission.
Deleting a timecard requires the Labor → Time & Attendance → Timecards → Delete Timecards permission.
Review Timecards From the Panel
1) Click the Timecards readiness card.
The panel opens with pending timecards for the active pay period and legal entity.

2) Click Approve on a timecard entry to approve immediately.
Disabled if the timecard has an unresolved error flag, or the approval permission is missing.

3) Click Review instead to inspect or edit first.
The panel closes and the review dialog opens.

Actions from the Review Dialog
Save a timecard without approving
Common point of confusion: Save does not approve.

Save + Approve to approve at the same time

Delete a timecard
Not available if the timecard overlaps a closed pay period or the delete permission is missing; disabled if it has a pending dispute.

Approve a Daily Sales Summary From Payroll Hub
Payroll Hub surfaces unapproved DSS records as a readiness check. This card appears only when Payroll Hub is enabled and the Timecards feature is turned off; see Review Timecards for that readiness check instead.
Click the Daily sales summaries readiness card.
Click Approve on a summary or (Optional) Click Review on the summary to inspect.
Immediate and irreversible — approves both the journal entry and DSS record.

Review page

Approve a Tip Distribution From Payroll Hub
Payroll Hub checks for unapproved tip distributions for the current pay period as a readiness item. This card appears only when Payroll Hub and Tip Automation are both enabled.
Click the Tip Distributions readiness card.
Click Approve on the distribution

Review and Approve From the Review Dialog
Click the Tip Distributions readiness card.
Click Review on the distribution
Click Approve in the review panel footer.
Optional: click Open distribution
Opens the distribution detail page on the existing Tip Automation page, documented earlier in this article, in a new tab.

FAQ
What's the difference between resolving an item inline versus using the review form?
Inline lets you approve or deny directly from a readiness card's panel without opening the full record — a shortcut when you already have what you need. The review form opens the full record first, which is better when you want more context, such as checking a tip distribution's contributor and receiver breakdown before approving. Both paths use the same permission checks and audit behavior. See Approve a Tip Distribution for an example of both options on one workflow.
Why don't I see all the readiness cards that other companies have?
Every card beyond Unpayable Employees needs two things to be true: Payroll hub has to be on the required rollout tier, and the related feature (Accruals, Timecards, or Tip Automation) already has to be enabled for the company. Having one without the other keeps the card hidden. [LINK NEEDED: how to check or request a Payroll hub rollout tier change]
Can I undo an approval or denial made from Payroll hub?
No — inline approvals and denials take effect immediately with no confirmation step, and Payroll hub itself has no undo. To correct a mistake, go into that record's full workflow screen instead, the same as you would for an approval made outside the hub. See Payroll Audit and Troubleshooting if you need to investigate a payroll discrepancy after the fact.
Why can't I see the Timecards card and the Daily Sales Summaries card at the same time?
These two cards are mutually exclusive by design. If Timecards is enabled, only the Timecards card appears; if it isn't, the Daily Sales Summaries card appears instead. This is a permanent setup, not something that changes over time. See Timecards Overview for how Timecards affects payroll processing.
Does resolving something in Payroll hub get logged the same way as doing it elsewhere?
For most readiness validations, yes — approvals and denials made through the hub carry the same audit behavior as the underlying workflow. The one exception is tip distributions: approvals made through Payroll hub are not currently audit-logged, unlike the other validations. See Audit Log for what R365 tracks elsewhere.
