The Auto Summary feature in R365 Intelligence uses AI to generate a narrative summary of an entire dashboard page, based on the visualizations, metrics, and filters on that page. Instead of scanning every graph and table, users can read a concise description of key performance indicators, trends, and notable changes in a single panel.
When enabled on a page, Auto Summary:
Analyzes all (or selected) visualizations on the page and produces a natural-language explanation of what the data shows.
Surfaces patterns, comparisons, and areas of concern that might otherwise require manual interpretation.
Can refresh as users change filters or interact with the page, so the summary stays aligned with the current view of the data.
Can be available in dashboard view mode to generate a summary when reviewing a dashboard.
This helps Intelligence users to quickly understand the story of a dashboard page, even if they are less familiar with interpreting or analyzing visualizations.
R365 Best Practice
The Auto Summary works best with visualizations driven by data added by dataset. To avoid errors, R365 recommends adding data by dataset when using this feature on a dashboard.
Enable and View Auto Summary in Edit Mode
The Auto Summary feature is enabled in dashboard edit mode, and can be set to be available in view mode.
To enable Auto Summary, open a dashboard in edit mode. Then, follow these steps:
Click the Auto Summary button from the top center header.
Once the Auto Summary panel is open, open the Editor panel.
Edit the Instruction, if needed. If the instructions are edited, click Generate to update the summary.
The instruction box has a preset, default prompt that asks the AI to generate an overall summary of the page. If needed, this instruction can be edited to be more specific, such as to tag certain attributes or metrics or to only target specific visualizations.
Elect whether to enable Auto Refresh.
When Auto Refresh is on (checkbox = checked), the summary will automatically update in view mode when any changes are made in edit mode. When turned off, the auto summary will need to be manually refreshed. Read more below.
Elect whether to display auto summary in consumption.
When Display in Consumption is on (checkbox = checked), the Auto Summary button will be available in view mode. Users viewing the dashboard will be able to turn on the summary to read the summary of the page. When turned off, viewing users will not have access to Auto Summary in view mode. Read more below.
Save the dashboard.

Edit Instructions to Manage Summary Scope
Auto Summary can work at two levels:
Full-page summaries – This is the default setting. The preset instruction is to summarize the entire page, considering all visualizations and key metrics available.
Targeted summaries – Users can narrow the focus to selected visualizations using @ references in the instruction text. When this is done, the scope of the summary will be limited to the visualizations and objects mentioned.
Use targeted summaries for more dense dashboard pages where using every visualization in the summary may overwhelm users.
Auto Refresh, Filters, and Data Changes
Auto Summary is tied to the current, present state of the dashboard page:
When Auto Refresh is enabled, changes such as filter selections or modifications to visualizations will cause the summary to refresh so it remains consistent with the displayed data.
When Auto Refresh is disabled, the summary will not automatically update. Users will see a message indicating that the data has changed and can click Refresh inside the summary window to recalculate the narrative.
View Auto Summary in View Mode
When Auto Summary is available, the button will be available in the top right corner of the page when viewing a dashboard. Click the Auto Summary button to generate a summary of the page. The Auto Summary panel will open.
The Auto Summary function will only be available for use once it has been turned on in dashboard edit mode.

Refreshing Data After Filter Changes
The state of the page changes once filters are adjusted. Because the summary reflects the dashboard page’s current state, the summary must be refreshed when any filters or data is altered in any way.
When Auto Refresh is enabled for the page, selecting a filter will close the Page Summary window. Once reopened, the summary will regenerate. When a selector is used on the page, the page summary will regenerate. If there are any delays, click the refresh button in the bottom right corner of the window.
When Auto Refresh is disabled, the summary will display a message indicating that the data has changed and must be refreshed manually. Click Refresh in the summary window to update it.
Copy the Summary
To share the summary with others, click Copy in the top-right of the Page Summary window. The copied text preserves the summary formatting for easy pasting.
