Important Note About Who This Affects
The following migration details apply only to accounts with prep items that are currently set up using purchased items. Accounts already using Prep Recipes for all prep are not affected as this prep setup already matches the recipe-based model.
Restaurant365 is moving Prep to a single, recipe-based experience. As part of this change, any prep item that was set up on a purchased item is converted so that every prep item exists as a Prep Recipe.
Prepping takes ingredients and turns them into a prepped product, and a recipe is the natural way to represent that process. This article explains why the change is happening, what happens during the migration, and what to expect on the account afterward.
Why This Change Is Happening
Previously, some prep items were configured directly on a purchased item record instead of on a recipe. This meant the same type of prep work could be set up two different ways, depending on how an item was originally created.
Recipe-based prep brings every prep item under one consistent model. Once an item is converted, its prep setup, calculations, and daily workflow work the same way as any other Prep Recipe, using the same Prep Sheet Wizard and Prep Templates available to every account.
What Happens During the Migration
The migration runs in the background. It does not cause downtime and does not interrupt daily prep work at any location. It requires no action before, during, or after it takes place.
What Changes After the Migration
After your account is migrated, the following changes appear:
Each converted prep item now has its own Prep Recipe, named with the prefix "[Prep Recipe]" followed by the original item name. For example, a purchased item named "Diced Onions" becomes a Prep Recipe named "[Prep Recipe] Diced Onions."
The original purchased item is not removed. It continues to exist and functions the same as before for purchasing and receiving. After migration, the purchased item is the ingredient of its new Prep Recipe rather than the source of the prep setup itself. The system automatically re-links any recipe or menu item that previously used the purchased item as an ingredient to use the new Prep Recipe instead. Recipes and menu items do not need to be rebuilt.
Each new Prep Recipe is automatically available in inventory, so it appears on inventory counts right away.
Because every prep item is now a Prep Recipe, the account has full access to the recipe-based prep experience: Prep Recipes, the Prep Sheet Wizard, and Prep Templates.
What Stays the Same
The following details carry over from the original purchased item to the new Prep Recipe, with no changes:
Units of measure for counting and ordering
Cost and GL account assignments
Location assignments
Par levels
Batch and yield quantities also carry over unchanged, so prep sheet calculations produce the same results before and after migration.
Existing prep history and reports are untouched. No historical data is deleted as part of the migration. Recipe costs and inventory values continue to update automatically, the same as before.
What You Need to Do
The migration completes automatically and requires no action. Daily prep work continues without interruption.
