Manage Library-Sourced Labor Rules

Prev Next

A labor rule created from a library rule is a library-sourced rule. Manage these rules from the Applied rules tab on the Labor rules page to change where they apply, to customize their settings, or to delete them. Learn more in Rule Library Overview.

Library and custom sources

The Source column on the Applied rules tab shows Library for a rule created from a library rule and Custom for a rule built in R365, including a rule created with the Create Rule button.

Security

Managing a library-sourced rule requires permissions for the rule type under Labor → Labor Rules, and access to every location where the rule is in effect.

  • Edit permission changes the locations of the rule, including removing every location.

  • Edit permission offers Customize rule.

  • Edit and delete permissions offers Delete rule in the details panel.

Change the locations of an applied library rule

Click steps to expand for additional information and images.

1) Open the rule

Go to Labor → Labor Rules. On the Rule library tab, select the rule row. The panel opens.

A library rule that is applied somewhere shows Manage locations.

2) Choose the locations

Select Manage locations. Select the checkbox for each location where the rule applies, and clear the checkbox for each location where the rule no longer applies.

3) Save the changes

Select Save changes.

Clearing every location leaves the labor rule in place. The rule stays on the Applied rules tab with no locations and keeps its Library source.

Open a library-sourced rule

Click steps to expand for additional information and images.

1) Select the rule

Go to Labor → Labor Rules. On the Applied rules tab, select the rule row.

A details panel opens with a read-only view of the rule.

2) Open the rule

The button in the panel depends on the rule source:

  • For a Custom rule, select Edit rule to open the rule form.

  • For a Library rule, select Manage rule to open a full-screen, read-only view.

Customize a library rule

Customize a library rule to change its settings. Customizing a library rule turns that rule into a custom rule. It keeps its settings and applied locations, but it is no longer linked to the Rule library. The rule becomes custom only when changed settings are saved.

Click steps to expand for additional information and images.

1) Open the library rule

On the Applied rules tab, select the rule row, then select Manage rule.

2) Start the customization

Select Customize rule.

3) Confirm

In the Customize rule? dialog, select Create custom rule.

4) Edit the custom rule

The rule opens in the rule form, with "[Rule name] (Custom)" suggested as its name. Change the settings, then save the rule. A message confirms "[Rule name] added as a custom rule."

Check the Applied rules tab. The rule now shows Custom in the Source column, and on the Rule library tab the library rule shows as not applied.

Customizing is not reversible

A custom rule stays separate from the Rule library. To use the library settings again, apply the library rule to locations again.

Delete a library-sourced rule

Deleting is the only way to remove a library-sourced labor rule from the Applied rules tab.

Click steps to expand for additional information and images.

1) Open the details panel

On the Applied rules tab, select the rule row.

2) Select Delete rule

Select the three-dot menu (⋮) in the panel, then select Delete rule.

3) Select Delete

Select Delete to confirm.

FAQ

Library-sourced rules open read-only. To change the settings, customize the rule, which turns it into a custom rule once changed settings are saved. See Rule Library Overview.

Does clearing every location delete the labor rule?

No. The rule stays on the Applied rules tab with no locations and keeps its Library source. See Delete a Labor Rule.

How is a library-sourced rule removed from the Applied rules tab?

Delete is the only way. Select the rule row, open the three-dot menu (⋮) in the details panel, and select Delete rule. See Delete a Labor Rule.
