It is created from the [Labor Rules page](/doc/docs/labor-rules-page-1). Learn more about [creating a labor rule](/doc/docs/create-a-labor-rule) or [configuring a predictability rule](/doc/docs/configure-predictability-rules). ## Security **Each action on the Predictability record has a dedicated permission under Labor → Labor Rules.** | Action | Permission | | --- | --- | | View | Labor → Labor Rules → Predictability Rules → View Predictability Rules | | Edit | Labor → Labor Rules → Predictability Rules → Edit Predictability Rules | These permissions can be added to [custom user roles](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/custom-user-roles) or [individual users](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/users-overview-and-security). The [Permission Access report](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/generating-a-permissions-access-report) can be used to determine which user roles or users already have these permissions assigned. For more information, see [User Setup and Security](/doc/docs/user-setup-security-and-location-access). --- ## Predictability Record Fields ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-DGB1409Z.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T18%3A40%3A52Z&se=2026-10-27T19%3A40%3A52Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=cTljjST99foKlQdhOc9oTBsX4UOlQEVbQFwysQeTckQ%3D) | | Button/Field | Description | | --- | --- | --- | | **1** | New predictability rule | Displays the page for creating a new predictability rule. | | **2** | Cancel | Discards changes and closes the page without saving. | | **3** | Create | Saves the tip makeup rule and creates the record. | | **4** | Close | Closes the rule creation screen without saving changes. | | **5** | Section navigation | Indicates the currently displayed section. Click to navigate to the desired section. | | **6** | Name | Captures the name of the predictability rule. | | **7** | Locations | Sets the locations where the tip makeup rule applies. | | **8** | Advance notice period | The minimum number of whole days, before the scheduled week begins, by which the week's schedule must be published. Accepts whole numbers of 1 or greater. | | **9** | Grace period | The number of minutes after a shift starts during which a late schedule change does not count toward the rule's penalty. Only visible once penalty calculation is available for the account. | | **10** | Penalty tiers | A set of notice-threshold and formula rows that determine the pay penalty for a late shift change. Only visible once penalty calculation is available for the account. | ### Predictability Tiers ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-O7LJWFFF.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T18%3A40%3A52Z&se=2026-10-27T19%3A40%3A52Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=cTljjST99foKlQdhOc9oTBsX4UOlQEVbQFwysQeTckQ%3D) | | Field | Description | | --- | --- | --- | | **1** | Notice window range | The lower and upper bound of this tier's notice window, entered as a number paired with an hours/minutes unit dropdown (for example, 24 to 0 hours before week start). Defines how far out from the shift start this tier applies. | | **2** | Penalty Type | Defines the type of penalty. Types include: - Shift added - Shift extended - Shift time changed - Shift shortened - Shift canceled Hovering over the information icon indicates what must occur to trigger the penalty. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-Q1JXD2TA.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T18%3A40%3A52Z&se=2026-10-27T19%3A40%3A52Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=cTljjST99foKlQdhOc9oTBsX4UOlQEVbQFwysQeTckQ%3D) | | **3** | Formula | Determines how the penalty is calculated. Fixed hours and Fixed dollar are available for every schedule change type. Shift hours reduced and Shift cancelled offer two additional options: Multiplier and Lesser of. | | **4** | Hours / $ Amount / Multiplier / Max hours | The value used to calculate the penalty. The field's label and input change based on the selected Formula: Hours for Fixed hours, $ Amount for Fixed dollar, Multiplier for Multiplier, or Max hours for Lesser of. A pay summary beside the field reflects the selection — for example, "Pay = [X] hour(s) at regular rate," "Pay = [X]x rate x scheduled hours," or "Pay = lesser of [X] hrs or cancelled hrs." | | **5** | Add condition | Adds an additional IF/THEN condition to the penalty formula for that schedule change type — for example, IF Shift length is [less than or equal to] [Hours] THEN (→) pay [Hours] at regular rate. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-3Z888IWP.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T18%3A40%3A52Z&se=2026-10-27T19%3A40%3A52Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=cTljjST99foKlQdhOc9oTBsX4UOlQEVbQFwysQeTckQ%3D) > Multiple conditions can be added as long as they do not use the same operator and shift length. | | **6** | Delete | Deletes the penalty tier. | > [!NOTE] > A calculated penalty is not final until the affected employee acknowledges the shift change in the mobile app, or the pay period closes with the change still unacknowledged. Once resolved, the penalty amount appears on the employee's timecard and on the [Predictability Acknowledgement Report]([LINK NEEDED: Predictability Acknowledgement Report]). See [How Predictability Pay Penalties Are Calculated]([LINK NEEDED: How Predictability Pay Penalties Are Calculated]) for the full acknowledgment lifecycle. The average hourly rate for an employee across all jobs and locations worked in a workweek, including certain other earnings. R365 calculates it at the end of each workweek and uses it for labor rules configured to use regular rate instead of job rate. A defined date range on the payroll calendar during which employee hours and earnings are accumulated. When a pay period ends, R365 automatically creates a pay run for that period. A record in R365 that captures an employee's worked hours for a shift. Timecards are created from punch data after it processes through the labor pipeline and are used to calculate earnings for payroll. ## Related - [Labor Rules Overview](/labor-rules-overview.md)
