# Instances Screen

The Instances screen lists all instances a user has access to. Multi-instance switching is available for [brand-managed instances](/doc/docs/brand-managed-instances-overview) and [partner-managed instances](/doc/docs/channel-partners). Learn more about [multi-instance switching](/doc/docs/multi-instance-switching-category).

From this page, users can:

- Navigate to any instance they have access to
- [Favorite instances](/doc/docs/set-favorite-instances-for-multi-instance-switching)
- [Manage instance nicknames](/doc/docs/multi-instance-nicknames)

## Security

All users with access to multi-instance switching can open and view the Instances screen. Learn more about [managing multi-instance users](/doc/docs/multi-instance-login). Only users with the following permission can edit [instance nicknames](/doc/docs/multi-instance-nicknames):

- Administration → System Setup → Edit Instance Nicknames

These permissions can be added to [custom user roles](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/custom-user-roles) or [individual users](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/users-overview-and-security). The [Permission Access report](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/generating-a-permissions-access-report) can be used to determine which user roles or users already have these permissions assigned. 1. Select the **multi-instance switcher** in the system header.
2. Select **Manage instances**.

## Instances Screen Buttons and Fields

|  | Button/Field | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **1** | Search | Filters for a specific instance name or nickname. |
| **2** | Recent | The five most recently viewed instances. |
| **3** | Quick Filters | Filters the instance list: - **All** - All instances the user has access to are listed. - **Favorites** - Only instances favorited by the user are listed. |
| **4** | Instance/URL | The URL name of the instance. Click to open the instance. Only instances the user has access to are listed. |
| **5** | Instance Nickname | The nickname for the instance. This will populate the multi-instance switcher menu in the system header for all users. Learn more about [instance nicknames](/doc/docs/multi-instance-nicknames). |
| **6** | Star (Favorite) Button | Indicates if the instance is marked as a favorite. - **Empty star** - Instance is not a favorite. - **Filled star** - Instance is a favorite. Click to toggle the favorite setting. |
