# Include Recipes on Inventory Counts

If a restaurant prepares batch recipes with multiday shelf lives, including those recipes in inventory counts gives a more accurate cost of goods sold (COGS) because the ingredients remain in inventory until sold.

To ensure that a recipe is available for inventory, complete the following steps:

*Click steps to expand for additional information and images.*

**1) [Create a recipe](/doc/docs/recipe-item-record) in R365, or open an existing recipe.**

1. Open the **Inventory** application.
2. Expand **Recipes**.
3. Select **Recipes**
4. Click **Create** to create a new recipe.

OR

Click a **recipe entry** to open a existing recipe.

**2) Mark the recipe as **Available in Inventory**.**

On the new recipe record, this toggle is in the **Settings’ Recipe Configurations** section.

On the classic recipe record, this checkbox is on the **General** tab.

**3) Update the recipe’s **inventory** settings.**

When **Available in Inventory** is enabled on a recipe, this will open an additional inventory section/tab on the record. It requires the configuration of the following:

- Inventory UofM
- Cost Account
- Inventory Account

On the new recipe record, this is the **Inventory Cost** section.

On the classic recipe record, this is the **Inventory Cost** tab.

**4) **Save** the recipe.**

**4) Add the Recipe as an Item on an [inventory count](/doc/docs/inventory-counts-create-and-enter-an-inventory-count) or inventory template for recurring use.**
