# Delete a Fiscal Year

Fiscal years are deleted from the [Fiscal Years page](/doc/docs/fiscal-years-page).

> [!WARNING]
> Important Note About Deleting a Fiscal Year
> 
> A fiscal year cannot be deleted if one or more budgets are linked to it, regardless of calendar type. If no budgets are linked, the fiscal year also cannot be deleted when it would leave a gap between the fiscal years before and after it.

## Security

Users must have the following permission to delete a fiscal year:

- Administration → Fiscal Years → Delete Fiscal Years

These permissions can be added to [custom user roles](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/custom-user-roles) or [individual users](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/users-overview-and-security). The [Permission Access report](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/generating-a-permissions-access-report) can be used to determine which user roles or users already have these permissions assigned. ## Delete a Fiscal Year

Follow these steps to delete a fiscal year:

****1)** Navigate to the [Fiscal years](/doc/docs/fiscal-years-page) page.**

1. Open **Admin** from the left navigation rail
2. Click to expand the **Accounting** folder
3. Select **Fiscal years**

****2)** Double-click the fiscal year to delete.**

The Fiscal period setup form will open in a new tab.

****3)** Delete the fiscal year from the setup form.**

1. Hover over the **Save** menu to expand the options
2. Select **Delete**

****4)** Confirm the deletion.**

If one or more budgets are linked to the fiscal year, the deletion is blocked and a message states that the fiscal year cannot be deleted while budgets use it.

If no budgets are linked but deleting the fiscal year would leave a gap between the fiscal years before and after it, the deletion is blocked with a message stating that gaps are not allowed.

If neither condition applies, the fiscal year is deleted and a success message appears.
