# Copy a Rule in the Rule Vault

Rules are copied from the [Rule Vault](/doc/docs/rule-vault-page). Copying a rule creates a duplicate rule that can be edited.

## Security

Users must have the following permission(s) to copy Bank Rules.

- Banking → Bank Activity → Bank Rules → Create Bank Rules

## Copy a Rule - Individually

> Default matching rules cannot be copied.

To copy a rule from the Rule Vault, follow these steps:

*Click steps to expand for additional information and images.*

****1)** Navigate to the [**Bank Activity page**](/doc/docs/bank-activity-page).**

A) Open the **Accounting** application**.** B) Expand the **Banking** category. C) Select **Bank Activity**.

****2)** Click **Rule Vault.****

The [Rule Vault page](/doc/docs/rule-vault-page) will open.

****3) Click the rule row** to open the rule record.**

Scroll or use the search bar to locate the desired rule.

****4)** Click the **copy button**.**

The copy button is not available for selection if there are unsaved changes on the rule record.

A duplicate of the rule is added to the Rule Vault with the prefix ‘Copy of’.

## Copy a Rule from the Bulk Edit Menu

The option to copy a rule from the bulk edit menu is only available when one bank rule is selected.

> Default matching rules cannot be copied.

To copy a rule from the bulk edit menu, follow these steps:

*Click steps to expand for additional information and images.*

****1)** Navigate to the [**Bank Activity page**](/doc/docs/bank-activity-page).**

A) Open the **Accounting** application**.** B) Expand the **Banking** category. C) Select **Bank Activity**.

****2)** Click **Rule Vault.****

The [Rule Vault page](/doc/docs/rule-vault-page) will open.

****3)** From the Rule Vault page, use the checkboxes to **select the rule** to be copied.**

Scroll or use the search bar to find the desired bank rules.

****4)** Click **edit selected** in the bottom right corner of the page.**

****5)** Click **copy.****

The copy option is only available in the bulk edit menu when one user-created bank rule is selected.
