When a schedule does not meet these requirements, Restaurant365 applies a **penalty earning** to the employee’s pay based on the configured rule. Use these rules to support local labor laws, internal scheduling standards, and consistent payroll calculations. ### Rule Types | Rule Type | When It Applies | Penalty Trigger | Penalty Calculation | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [**Split Shift**](/doc/docs/configure-split-rules#set-up-a-split-shift-rule) | Two shifts in the same day | Break exceeds **Split minutes** | Pays configured **penalty minutes** at selected rate | | [**Fixed Penalty Clopening**](/doc/docs/configure-split-rules#fixed-penalty-clopening-rule) | Close shift followed by next-day open | Rest is less than **Minimum rest hours** | Pays a flat dollar amount once per violation | | [**Entire Second Shift Clopening**](/doc/docs/configure-split-rules#entire-second-shift-clopening-rule) | Close shift followed by next-day open | Rest is less than **Minimum rest hours** | Pays the full opening shift, multiplied by rate | | [**Overlapping Time Clopening**](/doc/docs/configure-split-rules#overlapping-time-clopening-rule) | Close shift followed by next-day open | Rest is less than **Minimum rest hours** | Pays only missed rest time at selected rate | --- ## Security Users with the following permission will be able to create split rules: - Labor → Labor Rules → Split Rules → Create Split Rules Users with the following permission will be able to edit split rules: - Labor → Labor Rules → Split Rules → Edit Split Rules These permissions can be added to [custom user roles](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/custom-user-roles) or [individual users](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/users-overview-and-security).
