# Canadian Check Format Transit Numbers

Transit numbers for [Canadian check format setup](/doc/docs/check-printing-setup-canada-check-format) are added to the [bank account record](/doc/docs/bank-account-record).

## Bank Account Record Setup

When using the 'Canada' Check format, specific notation must be used for the MICR Dash value that often appears in Canadian Transit Numbers and Account Numbers.

To update the bank account record to include Canadian Transit numbers, follow these steps:

****1)** Open the desired [bank account record](/doc/docs/bank-account-record).**

****2)** Enter the **account number** of the bank account.**

For Account Numbers with a MICR Dash ([![gl-account-general-bank-can-check-micr-dash](http://restaurant365training.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/gl-account-general-bank-can-check-micr-dash.png)](http://restaurant365training.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/gl-account-general-bank-can-check-micr-dash.png)) present, in the Account Number field, enter a capital 'D' in place of the MICR Dash.

For example:

****3)** In the **routing number** field, enter the **transit number** of the bank account.**

> Clients using Canadian check format who also import BAI bank files can enter a separate [BAI Account Number](/doc/docs/bank-account-record) on the bank account record. A file format (Bank Administration Institute) used by banks to export account balance and transaction data. R365 imports BAI files on the Bank Activity page to match transactions before reconciliation.
