# Delete or Deactivate a Recipe

## Delete a Recipe

Recipes can be deleted as long as the following are true about the recipe:

1. The recipe is **not an ingredient** for another recipe.
2. The recipe has not been included on a **transaction.**
3. The recipe is **not connected to a menu item.**

If a recipe meets the above criteria, the recipe can be deleted.

**To delete from the **classic recipe record**:**

From an open recipe record, hover over Save, and from the drop down, click **Delete**.

**To delete from the **new recipe record**:**

From an open recipe record, open the menu, and from the drop down, click **Delete**.

## Deactivate a Recipe

If a recipe does not follow or cannot be updated to follow the above criteria, then a recipe **can** be marked as **Inactive** so that the record remains in R365 but can no longer be used.

To do this, navigate to and open the desired Recipe form by clicking it from the [Recipes list](/doc/docs/recipe-items-page).

**To deactivate on the [**classic recipe record:**](/doc/docs/recipe-item-record)**

On the **General** tab do both of the following:

1. Uncheck the **Active** checkbox.
2. Update the name of the Recipe to ensure that other users will not mistakenly use the Recipe. Adding ‘ZZZ DO NOT USE’ will ensure that this item is moved to the bottom of the alphabetized list, and it will not be confused with any other similar item.
3. When complete, ensure to **Save** the record

**To deactivate on the [**new recipe record**](/doc/docs/new-recipe-record):**

In the Settings’ General information section:

1. **Turn** **off** the **Active** toggle.
2. Update the name of the Recipe to ensure that other users will not mistakenly use the Recipe. Adding something such as: ‘ZZZ DO NOT USE’ will ensure that this item is moved to the bottom of the alphabetized list, and it will not be confused with any other similar item.
3. When complete, ensure to **Save** the record.
