The button is available only to users with edit access to Workers' Compensation, and stays disabled until you select a company. The rate form opens in three sections: Class details, Rate values, and Effective period. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-LAAOOTRX.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D) ## Workers’ Compensation Sections ### Class details State and class code are editable when you first create a rate. Once the rate exists, both fields lock to read-only text — only the description remains editable at any time. A state and class code combination can't be duplicated across rates. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-M1YUCTQE.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D) State also determines the classification system used for the rate, and changes the class code field's label and how the rate is measured: | State | Classification system | Class code label | Rate basis | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Washington | L&I | WA L&I class code | Per hour worked | | Wyoming | DWS | Class code | Percentage of wages | | All other states | NCCI | Class code | Flat rate per $100 of wages | ### Rate values Employer rate is required, and must be greater than zero for Washington and Wyoming rates. Employee rate appears — and is required — only for Washington rates. > [!WARNING] > Important Note About Changing a Rate's State > > Once a workers' compensation code is assigned to a job title, its State field can no longer be changed. Reassign the job title to a different code instead of trying to change the state of an in-use code. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-V7K35YEV.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D) ### Effective period Effective date is required. Expiration date is optional, though it can become required or restricted to prevent a coverage gap when a future-dated rate already exists for the same class. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-N1S6M85D.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D) --- ## Configure Workers’ Compensation ### Add a new rate version To change a rate's amount for an upcoming period rather than editing it in place, open the existing class and select **Add version**. Only one future-dated version is allowed per class at a time — starting a second future version updates the existing one instead of creating a new record. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-K5LEBHCA.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D) ### View rate history Select **Version history** from the rate form to open a side panel listing every version of the selected class, with a read-only view of each one. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-HBNQ30YV.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D) ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-ID718BXI.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-27T22%3A01%3A19Z&se=2026-10-27T23%3A01%3A19Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=0tikVlBaEov6YuLmdAfT7Ya62tFRm18nroaFWFq0qCQ%3D)
