The system applies sorting immediately, and sorted tables can be [saved as table views](/doc/docs/manage-table-views). This article covers sorting on tables with the new R365 table design. Refer to the [Working With Smart Grids](/doc/docs/working-with-smart-grids#column-sort) article for sorting on legacy tables, or the [Working with Classic List Views](/doc/docs/working-with-list-views#column-sort-order-size) article for sorting on classic list views. > [!WARNING] > Important note about clicking a different column > > Clicking a column header **clears any sort currently applied to other columns**. It then sorts the table only by that column. > > Learn how to [sort by more than one column](/doc/docs/sort-a-table#sort-by-more-than-one-column) below. > [!NOTE] > Hovering over a column header displays a tooltip. The tooltip shows the action the next click performs: Sort Ascending, Sort Descending, or Unsort. > > ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-MU8NZZP8.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) --- ## Sort By One Column Follow these steps to sort a table by a single column: *Click steps to expand for additional information and images.* ****1)** Click a column header.** Sorts the table in **ascending** order by that column.![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-DOAO32DU.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) ****2)** Click the same column header again.** Sorts the table in **descending** order by that column.![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-FM2EZBYP.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) ****3)** Click the same column header a third time.** **Removes** the sort from that column.![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-YOEJSX0Q.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) --- ## Sort By More Than One Column Follow these steps to sort a table by more than one column: *Click steps to expand for additional information and images.* ****1)** Click a column header to set the primary sort.** Click again to change the direction. Click a third time to remove the sort, as described in Sort by one column above. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-DOAO32DU.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) ****2)** Hold **Shift** and click an additional column header.** Adds that column to the sort as a secondary sort. This does not clear the sort already applied to the first column.![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-388WJKKV.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) ****3)** Hold **Shift** and click the same column header again.** Changes that column's sort direction. A third Shift+click removes it from the sort. Removing one column from a multi-column sort this way does not affect the other sorted columns.![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/5c9d1111-0c69-4e96-8910-d7f2750fdc9d/Images/Documentation/image-Z8NBM4WO.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T03%3A55%3A08Z&se=2026-11-06T04%3A55%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=kB4Nw2hm13RmwxQksInUfagQ1PCKuGDT6SlAjnG323c%3D) > [!NOTE] > Primary and Secondary Sorts > > The first column sorted is the primary sort, and the order in which additional columns are sorted determines precedence.
