Payroll and workforce administrators use these rules to ensure overtime earnings follow federal, state, and business requirements. Overtime rules evaluate hours worked using methods such as daily, 24-hour, weekly, and 7th Day consecutive. Updates to overtime rules apply only to future payroll and do not recalculate previously processed payroll. Update an overtime rule when: - Overtime requirements change due to labor regulations - A location opens, closes, or moves to a different overtime policy - Overtime pay multipliers or minimum wage requirements change > [!NOTE] > Updates to overtime rule settings affect future payroll calculations and do not recalculate previously processed payroll. --- ## Security Users with the following permission will be able to create overtime rules: - Labor → Labor Rules → Overtime Rules → Create Overtime Rules Users with the following permission will be able to edit overtime rules: - Labor → Labor Rules → Overtime Rules → Edit Overtime Rules These permissions can be added to [custom user roles](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/custom-user-roles) or [individual users](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/users-overview-and-security). The [Permission Access report](https://restaurant365.us.document360.io/doc/docs/generating-a-permissions-access-report) can be used to determine which user roles or users already have these permissions assigned. For more information, see [User Setup and Security](/doc/docs/user-setup-security-and-location-access). --- ## Open an Overtime rule 1. Select **Admin** from the left navigation rail. 2. Expand **Workforce**. 3. Select **Labor rules**. 4. Select the rule to open its record. > [!NOTE] > Tip: > > Find the rule Type in the Type column.
